State of Biodiversity Markets: 2011 Update and Webinar
View PublicationBiodiversity markets are gaining global attention. Last year’s ‘International Year of Biodiversity’ and 10th Conference of Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP10) catalyzed many governments to consider policies and programs that might drive markets for biodiversity protection. It is more important than ever to understand biodiversity markets: the scope, relevant policy drivers, and emerging global trends. This year, Ecosystem Marketplace will be publishing a 2011 Update to the State of Biodiversity Markets report, to be released this June.
Direct downloads for our first State of Biodiversity Markets reports have exceeded 2,600 over the first year since its publication. This report – which is freely available thanks exclusively to donor and sponsor support – was immediately welcomed as a benchmark for the market.
The 2011 Update report will highlight major global trends and developments in drivers of biodiversity offsets, compensation and banking. The reliable, consistent, and transparent information provided in this annual report will enable both experienced and new market participants to make more informed decisions, learn from the experience of others; ultimately allowing fair, stable, and transparent conservation markets to develop.
From citations in global reports like TEEB for Business, to use by government policy research teams, this report is informing international public- and private-sector decision making. Industry experts continue to present the report findings at events across the globe – from Nagoya to London to Puebla.
