Bonn Climate Talks Open With Focus on Food and Markets
Two weeks of UN climate talks opened today in the former German capital of Bonn, with the 50th meetings of both the Subsidiary Body for Implementation and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice, as well as a two-day workshop on agriculture within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the inaugural meeting of the Facilitative Working Group of the local communities and indigenous peoples platform.
17 June 2019 | BONN, Germany | Climate negotiators have convened here in the former German capital to hammer out details around how to handle international carbon markets under the Paris Climate Agreement, how to accelerate efforts to scale up climate-smart agriculture under the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture and inaugurate the Facilitative Working Group of the local communities and indigenous peoples platform.
Additionally, negotiators are picking up on proposals to provide more coordinated timing on national climate action planes, known as “NDCs” (Nationally-Determined Contributions).
The talks open as Germany throws its weight behind an EU-wide target of carbon neutrality by 2050.
